Gov. DeSantis Declares Sarasota Swimmer Champ Over Transgender Athlete
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Sarasota-native and Olympic silver medalist Emma Weyant finished second to Lia Thomas in the 500-yard freestyle event the Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday.
Not in the eyes of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, however.
At a news conference Tuesday, Gov. DeSantis announced he would issue a proclamation making Weyant the winner of the NCAA 500-yard freestyle.
