Florida Swimming Office Updates & Closing

Hello All!

In the past two weeks so many of our normal day events have been disrupted or completely halted. Hopefully in the next 30 days our lives will return back to what we consider our normal.

A few reminders/updates:

All USA-Swimming/Florida Swimming meets/events in April have been canceled. Several additional events have been canceled/postponed – USAS Open Water Jrs/Nationals are postponed; Southern Zone Open Water Championships are canceled for 2020.

The Florida Swimming physical office will close on Friday, March 27th for 2 weeks. The mayor of Orange County mandated a shelter in place order. Our office is set up to work remotely. If you need anything please feel free to contact us. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

We encourage you to check our website for updates. Our webmaster, Don Henshaw, has done an excellent job updating and keeping information current.

We sent out a survey last week to clubs asking “what you are doing?” – about ½ of our clubs responded – and 95% of them were out of the water while some were doing open water beach workouts. I’m sure that has changed since many of our beaches/state parks are closed. Many are encouraging dryland workouts for their swimmers. Please make sure you review the “covered activities update” from USAS HERE.

Florida Swimming invoices will be sent out to clubs on April 1. These are for outstanding charges – please remit payment as soon as possible.

USA-Swimming Southern Zone has provided some information for small businesses that you might find helpful – HERE

Athlete Protection for Adult Athletes - please remind your adult athletes that they MUST complete APT prior to swimming in a meet. Times will not count if they are not APT compliant and times are not retroactive. Our office will be sending out reports to clubs with athletes turning 18 by the end of the year.

Coach Certification Requirements – Extensions – as a result of many of our facilities closing, coaches may not be able to renew some certifications. Please review the following steps to assist if your Lifeguard Training, In-Water Safety Training or CPR/AED will expire between March 1-June 30, 2020 HERE

COACHES/OFFICIALS - The Rules and Regulations for Swim Coaches test and Officials on-line tests will be unavailable from April 15-30th. The tests are being updated to allow for May 1st rule changes.

Seasonal Clubs and Seasonal Memberships – for clubs offering Seasonal Memberships (April 1 – August 28) – per USA-Swimming, there will be no extensions of the length of the membership or adjustments to the membership costs.

Coaches – check out the recent “Coaching Connection” HERE.

As always, thank you for your continued support. Please stay safe and healthy!
