CVST’s Brady Santo Leads B Championship Team
On a brisk December morning CVST sauntered onto the pool deck with all the swag and class warranted by their T-shirts, shades, and fedoras. Each athlete was wearing an expression of intense hunger to win… swimmers with a goal.
Brady Santo (10) led off the team by picking up his first EVER two FLAGs cuts this weekend in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Santo also went PBTs in 8 of his 10 events, and, if that wasn’t enough, finished in the top ten in each, taking gold in the 50 free. Great job Brady!
The 8&Under ladies were led by Peyton Osborne (7) racing to six event wins in her age group followed by Mckinnley “Mini” Polk (7) with two epic event wins. Alex Myers (7) had an outstanding meet, streamlining her way to 6 personal best times! London Steward (7) dropped a whopping 3 seconds in her 25 free and 6 seconds in her 25 back flying into each wall and winning her heat in both races. Carolina Arreola (5) nearly swam out of her goggles dropping 4 seconds in her 25 fly, 5 in her 25 back, and 3 seconds in her 25 free even from the wrong heat! Blakely Morgan (5) went 2 best times in her 2 events and was able to anchor the 8&U 100 medley relay team with teammate Cece Komar (6) swimming the backstroke leg. Chloe Balseiro (6), Alex Myers, Peyton Osborne, and London Steward were able to grab the gold in the 8&Under girls 100 freestyle relay, with a nail biter of a finish! The 8&Under boys crushed the weekend with Easton Heath (8) and Brennan Smith (8) managing top ten finishes in every event they swam and bringing Carrollwood big points on the leaderboard!
The 9-10 year olds were not to be outdone beginning with Kaitlyn Coles (9) having 4 top ten finishes and two PBTs throughout the weekend. Molly Polk (10) and Hadley Stenberg (10) raced their way to 5 best times in as many events. Sahana Parekh (9) didn’t like single digit drops this meet, dropping 20 seconds in her 50 free and 11 seconds in her 50 backstroke. Becca Tetreault (9) dropped 4 seconds in her 50 backstroke, with her backstroke time coming dangerously close to her 50 freestyle time! Preston Thompson (9) had a stellar 100 fly, holding together a breathing pattern throughout the race for the first time. Coach Emma proudly almost did backflips into the Bay. Connor Smith (10) swam to all best times, 5 for 5, placing in the top 5 for each event. He also won the 100 fly in a blazing 1:24.60, a 3 second drop as well as his tenth FLAGs cut!
The 11-12 year olds were led by McKenna Smith (12) who made going 7 best times look easy and splashed to 4 event wins through the weekend. She absolutely annihilated her 100 breast with a 7 second drop to go a 1:22.03. Kylie Coles (11) flew to two top 3 finishes and a nearly 4 second drop in her 100 fly to go a PBT of 1:25.33. Maddie Polk (12) destroyed her 200 freestyle dropping 4 seconds in a hasty 2:31.60. Maddie Stenberg (11) had a two second drop in the 100 freestyle, crushing the wall in 1:15.86. Danny Mendoza (12) dashed to the wall in the 50 fly dropping nearly 2 seconds to go a PBT of 45.11.
Julia Cox (14) led off our senior girls with an event win in the 50 splash and dash freestyle, cruising to the wall in 26.47. Sophia Hasara (17) hit top ten finishes in each of her 6 events over the course of the weekend. Jayden Repak (13) pulled off a 19 second drop in the 200 backstroke hitting the wall not nearly as hard as Jim’s jaw hit the floor at the site of his hands beneath the surface. He also managed to pick up the 200 and 100 back FLAGs cuts and won each of the 5 events he swam over the weekend.
CVST was able to clinch a third place finish overall, as well as the Spirit Award against some serious competition. We’re proud of all our athletes’ performances throughout the weekend and look forward to achieving even more at our next meet. Congrats again to Brady Santo, and welcome to the FLAGs Team!
Let’s carry our swag over to Fort Myers!
