2017 Open Water Festival
On April 29-30, 2017, Gulf Coast Swim Team will host the 2017 Florida Swimming Open Water Championships at the beautiful Miromar Lakes, in Ft. Myers, FL. With its 700-acre freshwater lake, Miromar Lakes has served as the chosen venue for the 2016 10K Crippen Cup, 2015 and 2016 10K and 5K National Open Water Championships. It’s convenient location to the transportation, beaches, restaurants, hotels and shopping make it an ideal host.
This year’s events start on Saturday, April 29th with age group relays and team pursuits. The Annual Crippen Sunset Mile rounds out the day with a 10 & under 500 yard Buddy Swim to start the event. All proceeds from the Crippen Mile will go to the Fran Crippen Elevation Foundation.
Sunday, April 30th events include:
10 & Under – 800m swim
11-12 – 2.5K swim
13-14 – 5K swim
15-16, Open – 5K swim
All above events are open to current USA registered members, teams and US Masters athletes. Deadline for registration is April 19, 2017.
The Open Water Festival will also host a closed competition for the LSC All Star Challenge.
The weekend events allow for a safe open water competition and also gives spectators a family friendly environment at all ages.
This is an emerging part of the sport of swimming and continues to grow with the Rio Olympics hosting Open water for the second Olympics. CVST has been participating in Open Water events for years with the Senior Groups, and is encouraging all eligible CVSR swimmers to participate.
