Not-So Official Guide to Lane Ethics

In last week’s article, I discussed scenarios that may or may not justify the phenomenon known as “Lane Rage” — an otherwise unpleasant reaction involving splashing, thrashing, and spinning arms in response to some violation of Lane Ethics. To which I received an email from a loyal reader asking what are, exactly, “Lane Ethics?”
 
Lane Ethics means a “standards of courtesy when swimming in a lane.” It is a series of rules not to be violated; a “sharing-the-lane-code,” if you will. Many teams have their own unspoken version of Lane Ethics. Teams are different across the country. Yet, many times, there is confusion over basic foundations of sharing our chlorinated confines. 

And so, here is a Not-Official Guide About Lane Ethics...
