In swimming, the Ready Room is the place where spirits are broken and races are often won or lost before the athletes touch water. It's a small room off the pool deck where the top eight finalists are called to gather twenty minutes before their race. For Katie Ledecky, the world record holder in the 400, 800, and 1500-meter freestyle, it is a time of frightening focus.
