CVST at Area 3 Championships

CVST at Area 3 Championships

On July 31, to August 2, CVST traveled to St. Petersburg’s North Shore Pool for the Area 3 Championships.  The meet featured over 800 swimmers from Area 3.  Like other meets the past three weeks, this one was swum in the rain. Friday was swum in the rain, Saturday was delayed so late that the 12 & Under age group was finishing up their afternoon session at the same time that their evening session was starting at the other end of the pool. Through all of the rain, CVST swam fast.  (91 best times and 82% of all swims.)

These are some of my highlights:  Ana Avellan (9) swam the 50yd Freestyle in her first meet.  Austin Childers (19) dropped 23 seconds in his 500yd Freestyle (4:53.72) Childers also swam 22.91 to win the consolation finals in the 50yd Freestyle.  Austin moved into the championship finals from the consolation final to place 4th in the 100yd Freestyle (49.52).  Lauren Clark (9) medaled   placing third in her 25yd Breaststroke, Madeline Dean (8) fought through her nerves and swam her 25yd Free and Breast before leaving during a 4 hour rain delay.  Ava Edwards dropped over 3 seconds in her 50yd Freestyle (33.67) to get to within 2 seconds of this year’s FLAGS qualifying time. Sam Forman (9) swam an awesome Breast stroke leg in the 10 & U boys 100 Medley Relay, Asher Gonzalez (9) dropping time in Sunday’s 100yd Freestyle after exhausting himself with Saturday’s long day and sleeping through warm-ups. Sophia Hasara (12) after practicing Fly all through taper dropping 2 seconds in prelims and another 2 seconds in finals in her 50 Fly (32.78), Ella Herron deciding that a faster swimmer can take her place in the relay, Emma Herron (13) looking great and dropping 8 seconds in her 200yd Breaststroke, Savannah Kaddouri (10) looking strong in her 100yd Fly dropping 17 seconds, Kaitlyn Labella (10) coming from behind with a monster kick  to win the 100yd backstroke, Grayson Mann dropping 11.92 seconds in his 50yd Freestyle, Madison Ratchford swimming a strong 100 and 200yd Freestyle somehow dropping 25 seconds in each event,  Jayden Repak looking awesome in his 50yd Breaststroke (1st place) and holding his stroke and tempo through his 100 Breast.(1st Place), Kayla Rodriguez finally getting a chance to swim the 100 Butterfly and makes finals  and then moves up a place in finals, T.J. Rodriquez (7) so excited after sticking around all day to swim his 100 IM on the little kids side of the pool while the big kids are swimming finals on their side and drops 1.01 seconds to boot, Bella Salgado (13) going all best times in her legal strokes and broke a 3 minute in her 200yd Freestyle, Cat Salgado (9) opening the meet and looking strong in her 200 Freestyle dropping 15 seconds,  Maddie Stenberg (7) swam her first meet as seven year old and dropped 16 seconds in her 50yd Backstroke,  telling Chance Tierheimer (11) to swim as crooked as he can hoping to straighten him out in the finals of the 100yd backstroke (2nd place and only hit the rope once). Logan Tierheimer  feeling so relieved after finally swimming to a best time in his 100yd Freestyle (1:00.07) looking forward to breaking a minute, and finally Henry Walz swimming a strong 200yd freestyle dropping 5 seconds and then a strong 100yd freestyle only to  tell me he was DQ’d for a false start.
