CVST Has 6 of Their Toughest Take On Hurricane Man
Six athletes from the Carrollwood Village Swim Team (CVST) set foot on the powder white sands of Pass-a-Grille beach, tattooed with sharpie numbers, and surrounded by T-shirts reading, “Anything else is just a sponge bath.” The annual Hurricane Man 2.4 mile rough water swim is always a race to be looked forward to at Carrollwood because open water race opportunities are so few.
Madison Houck (10) started us off swimming the 1000m race placing first in her age group finishing in a swift time of 16:37.00, setting a high standard for her teammates swimming the 2.4 mile race. Daryl Pickerell (16) stole the show battling for the first place finish in his age group to win in a time of 45:46.00. Following him, for CVST, was teammate Abby Forman (13) swimming the race for the first time in an impressive 48:28. Shortly after, Emma Volz (20) finished in 49:42 to win her age group and Maria Zambito (20) finished in 51:29 to place second.. Allan Edwards (40), a CVST parent who swims with the CVST Senior Group represented CVST well placing second in his age group with a final time of 50:30.00.
Congratulations to all of the athletes for their performances! There’s nothing like a tough open water swim to prepare a swimmer for long course season.
