CVST "On Fire" at Gasparilla Races
At the 8th Annual Gasparilla Races, at Tampa Prep, Carrollwood Village Swim Team managed a stellar performance only two weeks after performing well at the Mac Crutchfield Invitational in Tallahassee. Even with such a quick turnaround, there were some huge time drops and a couple of Florida Age Group Championships (FLAGS) cuts picked up.
Friday Night CVST had only two athletes participate in the distance events. Abby Forman (13) dropped 3.83 seconds in the 400 Individual Medley (IM), from a best time set in Tallahassee, to go 5:15.10. After Forman, teammate Zach Bowles (16) destroyed his personal best 1650 freestyle time, also set in Tallahassee, by 3 seconds finishing in 17:11.23.
Emma Herron (13) started Saturday morning off with an 8 second drop in the 200 back speeding to the wall in 2:06.69. Lauren Kenny (13) attacked her 100 fly dropping 3.56 seconds to go 1:38.18. Jayden Repak (8) finished third in the 100 free dropping 3 seconds to go a swift 1:16.39. Soon after, Madison Ratchford (8) flew through her 100 free dropping 8 seconds to go 1:28.96. Ava Edwards (8) dropped a second in the 100 free as well touching in a fierce 1:32.38. Ella Herron (8) had a 12 second drop in her 100 free going so fast we could barely see her finish in 1:34.58. Logan Ingerick (11) had a second drop in his 50 breast to go a blazing 37.85. Ingerick also picked up another FLAGS cut in the 500 free on Sunday, beating his previous best time by 12 seconds. Savannah Kaddouri (10) annihilated her best time by 1.55 seconds in the 50 breast to go 50.29, dipping so close to the 50 point mark. New to the team, McKinley Cassels (7) had a 5 second drop in the 100 free to go 2:02.04, close to the 2:00 barrier. Taylor Cassels (7) had a 13 second drop in the 50 fly to go 57.00, dipping under the minute mark for the first time. Madison Houck (10) had a 2 second drop in the 200 IM to go a fast 3:09.55. Kaitlyn Labella (9) annihilated her 500 free dropping over 28 seconds to go 6:43.46, finishing so fast the wall was probably scared. Mabry Bishop (10) had a killer Saturday afternoon picking up FLAGS cuts in both the 50 breast and the 500 free, which included a 16.45 second drop.
Sunday Morning was led by Tyler Bowles (14) with a 3 second drop in the daunting 200 fly, to go a beastly time of 3:03.29. Logan Tirheimer (13) had a whopping 9 second drop in the 200 breast to go 2:58.69. Daryl Pickerell (16) had a 5 second drop in his 100 back to go 1:04.28. Cat Salgado (9) had a 2 second drop in the 50 splash and dash freestyle to go a wicked fast 44.11. Jackson Houck (10) had a 10 second drop in the 100 IM attacking the wall in 1:36.69. Sean Kenny (10) had a 3.46 second drop in his 100 IM to go 1:25.66. Sophia "Bubbles" Hasara (12) dropped 8 seconds in her 200 free to go a quick 2:41.48. As championship season approaches, all of CVST's swimmers are swimming fast all the way from ages 6 to 16 across the board. Next up on the schedule is the Berkeley Distance Meet for some different long distance racing before buckling down for GTSA champs and FLAGS. Keep up the good work Carrollwood!
