Labella Picks Up First FLAGS Cut

Labella Picks Up First FLAGS Cut

At the SPA/PYP Saturday-Sunday Morning Races, held at Northshore Pool in St. Pete, CVST swam until their limbs felt like fire and their lungs would burst. This paid off in particular for Silver-Gold group’s Kaitlyn Labella (9), who decided she didn’t want to come home without a Florida Age Group Championships cut. Labella has been in the chase for quite some time and picked one up in an impressive 100 free. She dropped 4.44 seconds breaking the 1:10 barrier to go a 1:09.08 and led her heat by over a body length. She was pumped to be joining teammates Mabry Bishop, Logan Ingerick and Abby Forman at the meet in March. Until then, I’m sure she’ll be looking to add to her event list.

On Saturday of the meet Tyler Bowles (14) started us off with a 9.12 second drop in one of the most difficult events, the 200 fly. He finished 5th in his age group and went a time of 3:06.05, setting the standard for his teammates. Soon after, Savannah Rude (11) swam a beastly 100 back dropping 6.20 seconds to go a blazing 1:38.05. At the other end of the pool, Jayden Repak (8) raced to a first place finish in the 50 back dropping 4.28 seconds to go 45.09. Grace Costantino (8) destroyed the 25 butterfly dropping 5.52 seconds to go a speedy 33.57. Also swimming the 25 fly, the fast and furious Maddie Stenberg (6), dropped 7.42 seconds to go a quick final time of 38.66. Julia Byrne-Garcia (9) had a 5.64 drop in the 50 free attacking the wall in a final time of 1:14.47.

Sunday, Ava Edwards (8) made a huge drop in what she calls “slow stroke”- or to others the 50 breast. Edwards dropped 9.77 seconds dipping close to the minute mark with a final time of 1:01.42. At the opposite end of the pool Senior 2 Abby Forman (13) annihilated the 200 back dropping 5.63 seconds to go 2:36.64.

Keep raising your expectations and chasing your goals CVST! At practice, your hard work and positive attitudes make everyone look forward to the next meet. Keep up the hard work!
