CVST Swimmers Brave Storms To Set Bar For New Swim Year

CVST Swimmers Brave Storms To Set Bar For New Swim Year

This past weekend in St. Petersburg, 17 of CVST’s athletes proved their determination by swimming through a storm at the Total Team Wares Invitational. Though the rain was unrelenting and the wind was chilly, Tyler Bowles (14) started the team off with a 14 second drop in the 200 Individual Medley (IM) followed by Lauren Kenny (12) with a 7 second drop. Brooke Lively (13) swam a fast 200 IM as well dropping 6 seconds to go 3:04.88. Logan Ingerick (10), swam a speedy 200 Freestyle dropping over 4 seconds and also broke the CVST 10&Under Boys Team Record in the 200 IM, with a time of 2:36.70.

Saturday was just as windy and overcast though the rain lightened up. Kaitlyn Labella (9) destroyed her best 500 Freestyle time by 8 seconds and her 100 Backstroke time by 12 seconds. Mabry Bishop (10) smashed her personal best 500 Freestyle time as well dropping 26 seconds to go 6:44.67. Lillian Garrett (15) muscled through her 200 Butterfly to drop nearly 5 seconds. Savannah Rude (10) blew through her 100 Breaststroke to go a blazing time of 1:51.86, her first time under two minutes and over a ten second drop. Senior 2 Abby Forman (12) also dropped nearly 2 seconds in her 100 Breaststroke. Sophia Hasara (11) swam a seriously fast 100 Butterfly dropping 6 seconds to go 1:32.60. We only had one relay represent CVST the whole weekend swum by Savannah Rude (10), Ava Edwards (8), Kaitlyn Labella (9), and Mabry Bishop(10). They came in third overall with a time of 1:03.20 in the 10&Under 100 Freestyle Relay.

Sunday was an intimidating day for new Silver/Gold swimmers Madison Ratchford (8), Ava Edwards (8), and Jayden Repak (8). The three swam together in a CVST only heat, their first 100 Butterfly. These three swimmers made it look easy as they finished hard their last 10 yards and then climbed out to swim the very next event. Carla Garrett (12) finished off Sunday’s session with a 6 second drop in the daunting 1000 Freestyle.

Overall, the swimmers who attended the meet represented CVST well and set the bar for the rest of the season. No matter what the weather looks like, how many times the meet is delayed, or whether the power goes out, CVST is able to swim fast and stay positive. We’re all looking forward to what’s to come this season: improving our strokes, swimming faster, and raising the bar.
