CVST Shines at FLAGS
The Carrollwood Village Swim Team also sent Abby Forman (12) and Logan Ingerick (10) to the Florida Swimming Age Group Championships (FLAGS) March 13-16 at the Selby Aquatics Complex, in Sarasota. At the FLAGS meet, formally known as the Florida Swimming Junior Olympics, a total of 974 athletes age fourteen and under from 62 swim clubs competed over a four day period for state championships in a new hybrid single age format. Under the new format, the Ten and Under age groups stayed the same as previous years where they swam timed finals during the morning session, but new to this year’s meet, the Eleven and Twelve, and Thirteen and Fourteen year old age groups swam a combined morning preliminary session and separated into single age groups for Finals.
At the meet, Ingerick swam in the 10&U boys division where he scored in all six of his individual events and placed in the top eight in three. The 10 year old Berkeley Prep student began his meet on Thursday swimming the 500 yard Freestyle in personal best of 6:01.29, finishing 5th overall. He also went on to swim personal best times in his 200 yard Freestyle (2:18.36) 5th place, 100 yard Freestyle (1:04.29) 7th place, and 200 yard Individual Medley (2:41.32) 9th place and was 11th in his 100 yard IM (1:15.88).
Forman a 12 year old Hillel Academy student swam to five personal times. She started off her portion of the meet by dropping 28.06 seconds in her 1000 yard Freestyle placing 7th in the 12 year old girl’s age group, and went on to place 8th in the 100 yard Butterfly (1:04.90), and score in the 200 yard Freestyle in 14th place (2:06.79). Forman’s other best time include the 100 yard Freestyle (58.29).
Next up for CVST is the 2014 Boys & Girls Club National Swimming Championships which they host at St. Petersburg’s Northshore Pool later this spring.
