CVST Has Great PCL & Open Water Seasons
The Carrollwood Village Swim Team (CVST) had a great Private Club League Season (PCL) and especially the Open Water Season. In this year’s PCL meet, CVST many great performances while traveling to Belleair Country Club, Carlouel Yacht Club, Tampa Yacht Club and Lakeland Yacht Club and hosting Palma Ceia Country Club for Dual Meets. CVST also hosted all nine teams from the league for the Annual PCL Relay Meet where there were close to 700 swimmers and spectators visited the Emerald Greens Recreation Center for the meet.
In Open Water Swimming, CVST shined at the Florida State Championships, held in Ft. Myers at the Mirromar Lakes Beach & Country Club. CVST finished sixth in the state as a team with only six team members participating. All six scored in their events:
Abby Forman (11) medaled in the Girls 2.5K Race finishing 3rd; Daryl Pickerell (14) and Zach Bowles (14) finished 8th & 9th respectively in the 13-14 Boys 5K Race; Emma Volz (18) & Maria Zambito (18) finished 3rd & 7th respectively in the Open Women’s 5K Race; and Corey Stein (18) finished 6th in the Open Men’s 5K Race. All of these races were held in Lake Miromar. All of these swimmers also competed in the Crippen Mile Race the evening prior to the State Championships, a short sprint type Open Water event, where Volz again finished 3rd and Zambito 5th this time in their Age Group.
Less than a week later, the CVST Seniors headed over to St. Pete Beach for the Annual Hurrican-Man 2.4 Mile Rough Water Swim, held off the coast in the Gulf of Mexico. In this event, there were no team scores, however Volz really stepped up her game and took the Over All Women’s Champion Award in the 500+ swimmer event. Zambito finished 4th in the Open Age Group and Stein was 5th in the open Age Group.
Congratulations to all of our CVST Swimmers on great PCL & Open Water Seasons.
