Randy's SPA Meet Recap
The CVST Silver/Gold and Senior 2 practice swam particularly well at the St. Petersburg Aquatics Team Saturday and Sunday Morning at the Races. Coming off of a home meet the previous weekend ,the CVST aquanauts had to navigate their way through a half marathon on to a pool deck with over 800 swimmers. This meet was a little bit different: The older swimmers swam at the same time as the younger swimmers but started a half hour earlier on a different course. Events were combined by ages and sexes then scored separately. This led to some different swims allowing the 10 & Unders to swim 25’s with the 8 & unders and the seniors to swim 50’s with the 11 & 12 year olds. We chose to swim our longer events since we swam our shorter events at our own Invite. Some of the memorable experiences from this meet is how quickly our kids adapted to the changes. I was very impressed on how team mates helped each other out by holding on to towels and Parkas while their teammates swam. How every swimmer from both sides of the pool came to see me after their race. How Abby Forman and Zachary Bowles swam their first 400 IM. How Drew Selig won her heat in the 25 Free. How we finished hard in all of our races and don’t remember getting touched out. How the 11 & over swimmers warmed up next to 13&14 year old Olympic trials finalist and national age group record holder Becca Mann and found out she warms up the same way they do. How the Silver/Gold group learned how to go with the flow and have fun when they found out they had to share a lane with another team in warm-ups. And finally how an 800 swimmer meet can finish in just over 3 hours.
