Race of the Century - JP Peterson vs. Brooke Bennett

This Thursday August 11 we will see local radio show personality JP Peterson from 1010AM’s Happy Hour Show take on Olympic Swimming Gold Medal Olympian Brooke Bennett in a race at the Emerald Greens Recreation Center Swimming Pool! JP will be broadcasting his show from 3:00-6:00pm, poolside at Emerald Greens Golf Resort and Country Club before and during the actual race which will take place sometime between 5:15 and 6:00pm. JP will has been and will be working with one of very our swim coaches from the Carrollwood Village Swim Team (CVST) , Randy Johnson, in preparation for his big swimming debut! Brooke will be giving JP a 15 yard head start in attempts to even up the playing field.

Three time Olympic Gold Medalist, Brooke Bennett, a Brandon native, has made a name for herself over the years in the swimming world and in the Olympic world. Brooke brought her first Olympic Gold Medal home in the 1996 Summer Olympics in the 800 meter freestyle. She kept the trend going in the 2000 Summer Olympics when she won two more gold medals in the 400 freestyle as well as setting an Olympic record in the 800 meter freestyle. Since her retirement from swimming, she continues to stay active and moving forward with her life and career. Brooke is currently a Sports Reporter for Bay News 9 and the Bright House Sports Network as well as a certified personal trainer and nutritionist.

So what is at stake for these two strong willed competitors? If JP in fact is able to defeat Brooke, he will get a night out on the town complete with Brook’s three gold medals as accessories! That’s right, not only does he assume the bragging rights, but he will get the privilege of wearing Brooke’s three Olympic Gold Medals the entire evening! If Brooke is able to uphold her reputation and get the win, JP will treat her to a day of pampering and relaxation with a spa day!

This event is open to the public to come and watch!  All Emerald Greens members are encouraged to come and check out the event as well, it should be a fun afternoon for all. We will also have a variety of prizes to give out during the day!

Make sure you come out to see if JP can take on this Olympic Champ in their head to head challenge!
