Randy's World

This is my favorite time of the year with fresh faces and a new season filled with hopes and dreams.  When I say fresh faces, a number of new swimmers have been lining up to try out for the team. This is an anxious but also exciting time for new swimmers and even seasoned swimmers alike as they change practice groups as they may doubt their swimming skills, endurance and even their ability to make new friends while keeping their old friends. This is where the team comes in, to make everyone feel comfortable and to grow together. Everyone pitches in to make our new swimmers welcome because you remember when you were the new kid. Everyone from the 10 year old who has been on the team half of their life to the new kid who has been on team for a day will be doing the same thing, building strokes and forming good habits. Now is the time to show the new swimmers what you know and to go back and think about the fundamentals of swimming as we start to reach for our new goals. Remember how we finished off last season by writing down our goals for this season? This year, my personal goal is for everyone to know their times, and to focus on those goals. I am going to have the Silver/Gold and Senior 2 practice groups start journaling their meet results. This will help us stay focused at meets and help us visualize our goals for future meets. It should be fun.

In closing, I would be remiss if I didn’t thank all of you parents for all of your efforts out of the pool, and for your dedication in bringing your children to practice so they can have success in the pool.

See you at the awards luncheon.
