I can’t believe October is almost over already! Our annual Halloween practice is right around the corner! Friday October 29, 2010 we will be holding a Costume Practice and Party! How cool is it going to be when you get to swim IN your Halloween costume?? We will also be holding a contest for the best costume with prizes for the winners, so make sure you brainstorm the best one out there! After our festive swimming, we will be enjoying snacks and drinks for our party portion. Make sure everyone brings a snack to share with everyone!

The Ocala meet this past weekend was a great success! It was wonderful to see so many families and kids take part in the meet and get together to have a team dinner at Carrabba’s. Chance, Grant, and Carla from the Bronze group did an amazing job of applying all of the skills they work on in practice into their races. We also got to look at a few things that we need to practice more of, which is something we are constantly looking at. This way, we continue to improve our strokes by practicing them daily so they start to become habits. Ask our “Heat Winners” all about the events they swam and how their races went!

As the weather around us becomes a little cooler with the upcoming fall season, I would like to remind everyone to start packing accordingly. CVST’s official “Bag Checks” will being Monday, October 25, 2010 make sure you’re ready! The temperature begins to drop a little earlier now and everyone should start bringing hoodies, sweatpants, socks, shoes and hats. This way when you are still damp from the pool after practice, your body has a way to stay warm.

Our Movie Nights on the lawn are kicking back up already! Friday October 22, 2010 we will be showing “How to Train Your Dragon” on the Recreation Center big screen! It’s a great way to spend your Friday evening after practice; the Oasis Grille can take care of dinner, and the kids can curl up in sleeping bags on the lawn with friends to watch a movie. Leaving the parents to relax together, plus there’s no clean up ;)

Also this week don’t forget we have the Grapes on the Green function early Saturday evening. October 23, 2010 CVST will be holding a silent auction at Grapes on the Green as a fundraiser for the team. We still need everyone’s help in donating baskets or items for baskets to help make this year’s auction a success! Please contact Vicki McGill for further information on how you can help!

The MOSI field trip is supposed to be this Sunday the 24th, but if we don’t get enough people signed up for it-we will not receive the quoted group rate. So make sure you get in permission slips and checks to me THIS WEEK so the kids can have this outing. Randy and I will be present the entire day with all of the kids, and any parent interested in joining is more than welcome!

The Family Night of Family Nights is NEXT WEEK! Emerald Greens annual Boo Buffet will be held down at the Pool this year on Thursday October 28, 2010! You get to dress up in costumes, with a spooky buffet for dinner, a DJ for music, dancing, and contests! Not to mention a haunted hayride around the club, costume contest, trick or treating, and Halloween crafts all evening! It is going to be the best Halloween party in town that you DON’T want to miss! Make sure you call 961-1381 ext 140 to place your reservations today!

Make sure everyone looks at our upcoming meet schedule and sign up for some of the meets we have in the near future. It’s great for these guys to get some meets under their belt so they can see how much fun they can be! It helps encourage them to keep showing up to practice and working hard to improve their races.
Last but not least….everyone who participated in the Aqua-Thon did AMAZING! I am so proud of all of the Bronze Group who pushed their limits above and beyond! We had a number of swimmers who finished all 60 laps, and a bunch of swimmers who just started and completed at least 30!! You guys are all awesome and I am SO impressed with the hard work you all put into the water. Thank you to the McGill’s who let us have our celebration party at their home; it was a wonderful evening that everyone was able to enjoy! You all were wonderful hosts and we appreciate you opening your home to the rest of the team. All together, the team raised around $2,600.00. Congratulations to Don Freund and James Brock for being our top fund raisers and receivers of some awesome prizes!!  Thank you for all who participated, and if you haven’t gotten your money into us yet make sure you do so soon!
